      Internet products and services are provided by Insync Internet Services, a Reliant Energy Communications company. The following is the acceptable use policy for our Internet products.

Acceptable Use Policy

System abuse is strictly prohibited. Insync may terminate or modify your service immediately and may bill for any support charges that result if you engage in system abuse. The following is a list of actions that are defined to be system abuse. This list is non-exclusive; any action about which there is any doubt should be referred to Insync for evaluation.

Actions which constitute system abuse include, but are not limited to:

  • attempting to circumvent user authentication or security of any host, network, or account on Insync systems or the Internet at large ("cracking");
  • attempting, in any way, to interfere with or deny service to any user or any host on the Internet;
  • forging email or USENET posting header information;
  • sending unsolicited mail messages (i.e. "junk mail"); this includes adding or attempting to add addresses to any mailing list without explicit positive consent of the addressee;
  • forwarding or posting "chain letters" (multiple forwarding) of any type;
  • posting inappropriate messages to USENET newsgroups e.g., posting unsolicited posts indiscriminately ("spamming"), posting in violation of a group's charter, or posting encoded binary files to USENET newsgroups not specifically named for that purpose;
  • attempting to cancel, supersede, or otherwise interfere with email or USENET posts other than one's own;
  • engaging in harassment, whether through language, frequency, or size of messages;
  • using an account at another provider to promote an Insync Web site in an abusive manner;
  • using an Insync account or network connection to collect replies to messages sent from another provider which violate these rules or those of that provider;
  • using Insync's system or resources in a manner that violates any criminal or civil law, including, without limitation, any law that prohibits copyright infringement;
  • reselling Insync services to third parties who do not abide by these guidelines. Specific rules governing commercial Usenet postings:

Posts of a purely commercial nature are generally frowned upon, although they are not entirely prohibited. If you are posting commercial content to Usenet, you must follow these guidelines:

  • No more than five posts per group per 24-hour period.
  • No more than 100 posts in total per 24-hour period.
  • Your posts must be on-topic for the group(s) in question.
  • You may not cross post to more than five groups at a time.
  • You may not employ any tactics designed to defeat others' Usenet spam filters. If they want to filter your posts, you mustn't try to stop them.

Specific rules governing servers:

Any servers (SMTP, FTP, proxy, etc.) running on Insync's network must be secure. Specifics of security include, but are not limited to:

  • SMTP servers must not be vulnerable to third-party relay. See this page for a description of third-party relay.
  • Proxy servers must not allow connections from outside your network
  • In general, servers must not allow the abuse of Insync's or your resources by third parties.

We reserve the right to block network traffic to/from any servers in violation of these rules. Violation of any of the rules in this Acceptable Use Policy may result in immediate termination of your services with Insync.

    Protection Against Offensive Material. You acknowledge and understand that parental control protections (such as computer hardware, software, or filtering services) are commercially available to assist you in limiting access to material that may be harmful to minors. For more information about parental control protections, go to a reputable computer store and inquire about Internet filtering software and devices. You may also search the Internet (using a search engine) to find more information about parental control protections. Example keywords for Internet searches include: "Internet filters", "filtering software", "family PC filters", "net nanny", etc. Insync reserves the right to modify and/or add to this Acceptable Use Policy at any time, with or without notice.

    If you wish to report an Insync user violating these rules, please send proof of the abuse to abuse@insync.net.
